Snowpolis offers companies modern premises and facilities, where the most modern IT-solutions are available.
Snowpolis offers companies services, which aim at founding new small and medium-sized companies, as well as at enlargening and developing them. The main objectives are to help the existing companies to succeed and grow, as well as to invite new companies to join and to be part of the network.
Snowpolis combines entrepreneurial pursuits with university-level competence in sports technology, nutrition, wellness technology and snow expertise.
Local businesses as well as scientific personnel throughout domestic Finnish and international universities are part of Snowpolis-cooperation. The University of Oulu, the University of Kuopio, the University of Jyväskylä, and the Kajaani University Consortium are all part of it.
Technology park Snowpolis is an international meeting point for companies, scientific research, development centers and education.

Snowpolis is growing according to expectations
Snowpolis is now ready to celebrate the roofing party of the second part of the construction, and it is also achieving the target number of companies starting up there. Soon the 20th company will settle down in the technology park. There are now about 60 people working in Snowpolis. In addition to that, about 80 construction workers are working at the construction site.
Snowpolis, which is a specialist in sports – and well-being technologies, now gets long-awaited space and more meeting rooms. Together with the Sokos Hotel Vuokatti there will be plenty of new congress space, which is marketed together with the hotel. All in all, there are 1 500 square meters of congress rooms in different sizes. The large auditorium caters for 110 people.
“The possibilities to organize business-, research- and scientific conferences are now really good, and we are able to fulfill the demand in cooperation with the hotel and other operators already active in this area”, says the managing director of Snowpolis, Mr. Antti Leppävuori.
Sokos Hotel Vuokatti is celebrating the roofing party
At the end of May, the Sokos Hotel Vuokatti, which is owned by the retail chain Osuuskauppa Maakunta of Kainuu, celebrated the roofing party. The construction work is well under way and everything is proceeding according to the project plan. The construction project was started last autumn and the hotel is supposed to be finished in December 2007.
The construction project is realized for the most part with local operators from the region. The architectural planning g was done by Arktes Ltd. of Oulu, where the lead architect was Mr. Paavo Karjalainen. The engineering office Pekka Heikkilä Ltd. did the engineering planning, and the plumbing and electrical planning was done by Arkins Suunnittelu Ltd. The building foundations were the responsibility of the planning office Suunnittelukeskus Väylä Ltd.
The actual construction work is the responsibility of the construction company Palmberg-rakennus Ltd. The chief constructor is Mr. Matti Kilpeläinen. The ground work is done by the Oulu branch of the Finnish Road Entreprise, the plumbing work by the company LVI-Aitta ja putkimiehet Ltd., the air conditioning work by YIT Kiinteistötekniikka Ltd, and the electrical work by Paikallis-Sähkö Ltd.

Active Wellness – hotel
The Sokos Hotel Vuokatti will have 147 rooms, with some 300 beds altogether. In the hotel, the guest will find a varied restaurant world, where the interiors have been designed by Mr. Eero Korpelainen of Desing Lights. The hotel shares the entrance, the auditorium and other meeting facilities together with the technology park Snowpolis. “We are planning to lay focus on smooth cooperation with other operators in the area, such as the Vuokatti Sports Institute”, says the Osuuskauppa Maakunta line manager Mr. Jari Kropsu. ““Although the hotel will naturally follow the typical concept of our Sokos Hotels, this hotel Sokos Hotel Vuokatti will become a unique and innovative hotel, which perfectly suits the existing infrastructure in Vuokatti”, says Mr Kropsu about the image of the new hotel. When ready, the hotel will employ 35 professionals in hotel and restaurant business.
