The Technology Park suits well various kinds of testing, testing in cold conditions, electronics- and programming industry, as well as businesses based on biotechnology. Snowpolis offers companies modern premises and facilities, where the most modern IT-solutions are available.
Snowpolis offers companies services, which aim at founding new small and medium-sized companies, as well as at enlargening and developing them. The main objectives are to help the existing companies to succeed and grow, as well as to invite new companies to join and to be part of the network.
Snowpolis combines entrepreneurial pursuits with university-level competence in sports technology, nutrition, wellness technology and snow expertise.
Local businesses as well as scientific personnel throughout domestic Finnish and international universities are part of Snowpolis-cooperation. The University of Oulu, the University of Kuopio, the University of Jyväskylä, and the Kajaani University Consortium are all part of it.
Technology park Snowpolis is an international meeting point for companies, scientific research, development centers and education.

Wellness branch for Kainuu is being developed at Snowpolis
Snowpolis has received the task to work out a development plan for Kainuu region wellness by the year 2010. “Kainuu region is already a national and international meeting point for the wellness branch. We at Snowpolis have ready infrastructure for international piloting in this branch, as well as to test wellness equipment, services and concepts”, says Mr Antti Leppävuori, General Manager of Snowpolis.
“At the moment people still talk about well-being especially when they lack it. But as the standard of living rises and the population becomes older, good health and well-being will become more and more important, and the demand for improved well-being services and equipment will rise remarkably”, says Ms Leena Rusanen. She is a project planner at Snowpolis’s sports technology unit. The potential markets for new well-being products and services are steadily increasing, thanks to the improved standard of living of senior citizens, as well the younger generation, who value the importance of subjective well-being.
“The increasing senior citizens’ market is a good example of the chances that Kainuu wellness and well-being branch is experiencing”, says Ms Rusanen. She continues: “We have the capacity to combine the know-how of sports, nutrition and measurement technologies, as well as sports and technology. We have different kinds of sports concepts, as well as solutions for preventing long-term illnesses and so on. We also provide housing that is free of barriers for senior citizens, as well as a number of inspiring courses designed just for them. In addition to all that, we also provide an inspiring environment for wellness-tourism and occupational well-being for working-age people.”
The definition for the whole Kainuu wellness branch development can be stated with just one sentence : Supporting health and healthy living routines and preventing illness in different age groups through physical activity, nutrition and technology. The aim of this long-term project is to develop the wellness branch in Kainuu to match the needs of the future. To do so, an innovative environment is needed, and the latest information has to be acquired and also created from anew. Also anchoring the development to Kainuu region remains an important
task.
Physical activity, nutrition and healthy life style
are key factors for people's wellbeing in Kainuu region.
“Developing the wellness branch in Kainuu is strongly linked with the objective of attracting key people and businesses to Kainuu. Thanks to the know-how and experience the key people bring along, new businesses are able to flourish and expand”, Ms Leena Rusanen summarizes the strategic development objectives.
“This project means a kick-off for the development of wellness and well-being related companies in the Kainuu region. Until 2010 the project is supported by external financing sources.
